My Grandson Antonio's 12th Birthday!

Today is my grandson Antonio's 12th Birthday and I wish him all the best in the world! He's been my inspiration, my buddy, my hero and one of the reasons I enjoy being a grandfather so much!

And he's also a bright student at school!

Happy New Year 2024...with Harry Harrison!

Harry Harrison was a radio personality, primarily in New York City, for over 50 years. Harrison is the only disc jockey to be a WMCA "Good Guy", a WABC "All-American", and a personality on WCBS-FM's oldies format. Harrison retired in June 2005. He was known as New York's "Morning Mayor" after having hosted morning drive time through most of his career.  In 1965, he recorded the holiday narration "May You Always", which was released as a single on Amy Records and made the Billboard Christmas singles chart that year. The recording has been a staple and airs every New Year's Eve on the radio station.
Harry Harrison died peacefully on January 28, 2020, at his home in Westwood, New Jersey, at the age of 89.

This is a copy of the WCBS-FM letter that Harry sends out to those who request the lyrics. But, to truly appreciate it, you have to hear Harry read it.

HAPPY EASTER 2023!

I thought the Easter Bunny came to hide the Easter Eggs but as it turns out, there's also an Easter Egg who delivers Chocolate Easter Bunnies!

But never fear...the Easter Bunny is still here!

JOSKE'S DEPARTMENT STORE IN THE 1960s

Back in the 1960s, during Christmas, my family would hit the road and travel from Mexico City to San Antonio, Texas with the express purpose of doing some gift shopping and to spend Christmas there as well. We usually returned home on the 26th to celebrate the New Year back at home. Joske's was the main destination of our shopping days and visiting the toy department was a dream come true for us young tykes. I can still remember the toys I found there and the many hours we spent browsing through the aisles in wonderment.

The wonderful toy department at Joske's!

I bought these two at Joske's Toy Department around 1963.

Starting in 1960, kids at the Joske's store downtown would wait for their turn with Santa Claus in Fantasy Land, a 16,000-square-foot holiday-themed maze.

Santa's Fantasy Land!

The huge Christmas Santa at Joske's.

We stopped traveling to San Antonio by 1970 as we all grew older and pursued other holiday destinations but I never forgot those nostalgic days when I looked forward to the great San Antonio adventure at Christmas time!

In 1987, Joske’s was sold to Dillard’s, which occupied the building until 2008 when it was purchased and later occupied by the Rivercenter shopping mall. The building is part of the National Register of Historic Places-listed and City of San Antonio Alamo Plaza Historic District and is an individual City of San Antonio local landmark.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!

I guess this is the one that got away, but hopefully you'll be having a delicious turkey dinner today. Enjoy!

MY WORST TRIP EVER! - (Revisiting an old Nightmare)

I have many wonderful and unforgettable memories from great trips I've made during my lifetime but, unfortunately, I cannot shake from my memory the very worst trip I ever took which happened exactly six years ago, back in November of 2016.

SERENITY NOW!
Seven horrible days in Los Angeles and San Diego with my father.
The old man hogged the driving wheel during the entire trip even though he could barely drive because of his old age and he flatly refused to go anywhere else but the cheapie 99 cent stores where he would stay hours and hours, going slowly aisle by aisle while I just stood there, like a wax figure, motionless and unable to do anything.
The happiest moment came when I realized the end of the torture was coming near!
I never took a trip with him ever again. Mercifully, he died in 2018.

It's Time To Go Out Trick-Or-Treating!

It's Halloween and trick-or-treaters may appear in some very unlikely places!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Here are a couple of my favorite Halloween-themed Pink Panther covers I did for Novaro/Western Publishing way back in the 1980s:

Birthday Wishes for Two Great Little Kids!

Happy Birthday to my dear little granddaughter Almudena! She is four years old today! Here's wishing her all the best! It's so much fun being four!

And also a ton of good wishes for her youngest brother, little Ferrán, who was 2 years old this past October 19th. Sending him many hugs and kisses on this momentous occasion!
It's no secret that grandchildren give us elders a renewed lease on life!
