MY 50th ANNIVERSARY!

It was 50 years ago, on April, 1970, that I began my career as a professional cartoonist. My first printed comic strips appeared on the April issue of  LA GARRAPATA, a well-known political satire magazine at that time and thus began my meteoric rise from absolute obscurity to complete mediocrity!

Okay, so those first strips were not very good, but I didn't give up in spite of popular demand to the contrary and here I am, fifty years later, still trying to do as best as I can.
In those early days, I was lucky enough to find some charitable editors who saw some possibilities in my work and hired me to continue my journey as a cartoonist.

These are some samples of those first years when I tackled whatever came my way:

LOVE IN THE TIME OF THE CORONAVIRUS

"Sharing meals, hand-holding, and kissing can spread the coronavirus, but Covid-19 can't stop people from looking for love. Health experts around the world have been recommending that people reduce unnecessary physical contact with other people, such as shaking hands or kissing on the cheek. Even the French have recommended no cheek kissing."
However, couples still hug and kiss each other, and children continue to display their love by kissing their parents. Will this show of physical affection spell the end of civilization as we know it?

If you are pessimistic, then the answer is yes. But if you're like me, then you should just relax and take it easy. Stay home, keep your distance from people and you'll be okay for the duration. Remember this is not our first pandemic and it most certainly won't be the last.
Just don't panic, follow the rules and try to make the best of it while it lasts. Love will find its way, no matter what.  And this "no hugs or kissing" warning will soon pass too!

This is what health experts recommend:
"You can still greet each people warmly and politely without touching them, by bumping elbows or fists, tapping feet (the “Wuhan shake” popular on social media), simply waving hi, or one of the many other creative suggestions that are popping up online. This isn’t about making extreme changes to our social interactions; it’s about taking simple steps to help reduce your risk of disease."

Very Sad News: MORT DRUCKER is gone!

Mort Drucker, master of caricature passed away today at 91 years of age.
His work made my days happier and his art was my inspiration. He will certainly be missed, although he had pretty much retired in recent years but his fine legacy will stay forever with us.
I used to buy MAD magazine just to see his masterful artwork and celebrity caricatures which were imitated but never equaled by other Drucker-hopefuls.  His style has an undefined quality that makes his caricatures rise above everybody else's.
I won't go into many details about his work but you can read what I wrote here:

So long, Mort! Someday, we'll all be eventually meeting on that big drawing board up above!
