STOP THE WORLD!

The Coronavirus outbreak lockdowns and quarantines are beginning to take their toll on everybody's nerves. I really would like to move out of this planet if there was something better out there! (And I mean "moving out" while still alive!) Unfortunately, there is no real way to escape from this now so we'd all better try to make the best of it! Cheer up!

The Lizard and I

I had a small intruder slip into my apartment over the last weekend. It was a little brown garden lizard, the variety commonly known as a skink or, more precisely, a Lampropholis Guichenoti.
I was fixing my breakfast when suddenly, the little creature sprinted out from under the fridge and scared the bejesus out of me. At first I just saw a dashing blur but then it stopped abruptly and I could see the tiny reptile very clearly. I was relieved but when I tried to catch it and return it to the yard, the diminutive dickens ran out on me and hid somewhere else.  The lizard remained nowhere to be found until this morning when I saw it again on the carpet beside my desk, just lying there, motionless. I slowly grabbed a small Tupperware container and trapped it with a swift move.  The lizard is now back in its natural habitat at the backyard, however I still wonder where the devil did he get in here in the first place since I live on a third floor!

THE 1969 MILITARY SERVICE!

50 years ago, I complied with Mexico's mandatory military service which was a one year long basic training every Sunday.  I never could get a picture of me taken during my service, but I can recreate it as best I can here!

The year was 1969, and my battalion was summoned to serve as barrier between the crowds and the Military Parade which is held every September 16th, to commemorate Mexico's independence from Spanish domination. We all stood there stoically for hours until the last section of the long parade passed by.
Ah! The Military Service!
And now,  50 years later, I can look back at those days...and still hate them immensely!

At The Crack of Dawn...

As the body becomes older, the joints and bones become creakier and noisier as I've come to realize every time I get up from bed.  Each morning becomes a veritable symphony of onomatopoeia reminiscent of those old Don Martin cartoons from MAD magazine!

THE TWILIGHT ZONE!

THE TWILIGHT ZONE was an anthology tv series created by noted writer Rod Serling and dealt with fantastic stories which almost always featured a surprise and horrifying ending. The original series ran from 1959 to 1964 with a total of 156 episodes. The series quickly became a cult classic and still runs in syndication. It has been revived several times and a feature film produced by Steven Spielberg was released in 1983.
The original series remains the better one and some of my favorite episodes still hold up very well. The Twilight Zone has also been adapted into a series of comic books, the best ones being published by Gold Key Comics during the 60s.
Much has been written about the show and details are easily found everywhere on the Internet so I won't delve too much into them.
All I can say is that October and the Halloween season always seem to be the best time to enjoy these timeless episodes.
So here's remembering Rod Serling and the immortal Twilight Zone!
"There is a 5th dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space, and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow - between science and superstition. And it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call...
THE TWILIGHT ZONE!"
